Hi , folks ,

Came across this forum through the latest video by Joerg Sprave on YouTube . He and some other guys that put up their slingshot videos in there have deeply inspired me to try my hand on making slingshots as well .

I've been making fishing lures for almost 20 years now , so I'm a bit familiar working with wood and metal .

Also I've been shooting slingshots during my teenage years more than 30 years ago , we had simple forked branch slingshots and simple wire frame ones back then , ......guess I might get into something better and more beautiful nowadays .

Don't think , that I'd ever get be the most perfect and accurate shooter , also won't get to steady practice a lot , I guess ........but I'd surely feel the urge to build one or the other slingshot now and then , also do some plinking or target shooting in the woods in my vicinity or also whilst fishing .

Still need to gear up in terms of obtaining different kinds of elastic band , so my membership on this site would really come in handy to check out some info .

I live in northern Germany 20 miles east of the city of Hamburg , I'm going to turn 49 years old in a few weeks and I'm working as a grinding machine operator in the metal industry , ......I'm married and I have an adult daughter .

I added some pictures of a small pocket shooter , that I had made during my vacation the past weeks ,.......... never got to practise outdoors , but down my basement workshop it did entirely penetrate beverage cans , a tin lid of a bisquit box and pierced a piece of medium dense balsa wood about 15mm deep , .........shooting 5,5 mm round airgun pellets on 8 feet range .

Two of the pictures displays two options to hold it , but it is still in an unfinished condition then .

It's just a little toy for playing around , my next slingshot is gonna be bigger and stronger , I hope !

Nice to be here , ...........greetz , Dieter

Thanks , guys , ........have already done some more practise with it down my basement workshop this morning , ..........I can almost constantly hit a target of matchbox size , ..........only on 8 feet , though

Need to get outdoors to try on longer ranges , I guess , ........but I'm quite short of leisure time , and at this time of year lure fishing is paramount for me !

Thanks again , ....greetz , Holzwurm

Hi , folks ,

Moderator "newconvert" has asked for some more pictures of this little shooter shown in here , so I've thought to put these up in here not open another thread .

Well , here they are :

Wood Ruler Office ruler Rectangle Font

Musical instrument Wood String instrument Wood stain Varnish

Food Plant Wood Ingredient Fruit

Wood Finger Safety glove Ingredient Nail

Ruler Product Office ruler Organism Font

The pop rivet head serves like a kinda grommet , I had shortened the shank to about half of it's original length , ......the eyescrews are meant for making wooden fishing lures to act as hookhangers and lineties .

These are special so-called muskie or magnum screweyes , made of stainless steel and thicker in diameter than the more common smaller lure screw eyes(0.92") , thus more difficult to find , ...won't get them in hardware stores , but special lure component suppliers only , I suppose .

Here is one :

www.mooreslures.com

.......check out PDF catalog page 9 (PDF page 11) .

Dont remember , whether I had mounted the longer or the shorter type , .......but assembled this way(glued in with epoxy glue)these eyes won't bend under the strain of Chinese 1745 single tubes or 2040 doubles .

OK , hope this is enough to make copies of my pocketshooter design , presently it is rigged with 1745 singles tied to the eyes with a constrictor knot covered with a piece of tube , also shoots well this way ,...... but there are differences , whether holding it in one way or the other(tube tag end on top or below the main elastics) , one has to find out which way works best .

The ball-in-tube attachement thru the eyes also worked very well(like in my shooting video at the river)or looping weaker 2040 tubes through the eyes to make up for doubles(like in my avatar) .

I designed this little shooter for indoor shooting .22cal airgun pellets , but I guess , that it would work out with steel BB's up to 9mm as well , only requires a sligthly larger pouch .

During doing my river shooting video , I was quite surprised , that with it's .22cal ammo this shooter had enough punch to pierce a hole into that drifting cashew nut can to sink it at about 10 to 12 metres distance , .......heavier ammo might just have knocked the open can over , but this shot did not , it hit dead on to cause a hole in the can .

Good luck making your own , ....cheers , Holzwurm
