Carved out another oak natty yesterday. This one had some cool dark spots in it. Maybe the beginning of spalting? Tried to take a pic to show it. Looks pretty neat in person. This one didn't take the stain as deeply as the last but that's okay since it shows the spotting better. I like my nattys to look made, not manufactured, so I tried to cut the butt so it looks like it was just chopped down with a hatchet. Only sand to about 120 and don't really worry about getting all the tool marks out. Has a nice bit of a curve.

And since SJAaz is going to ask... Fork gap is 3" and CTC is 3.5".

Thanks for looking!

Looks nice and natural....Like real WOOD!!
Thanks, Dennis! Only made possible by your generosity!

My phone camera stinks and doesn't really tell the story. It is really a nice amber/honey color. I don't work them too hard. Get it to the shape I want then a bit of sanding to 120 grit and then finish. I like them with a bit of texture. That knot in the first pic was very prominent and had a shoot sticking out. I could have worked it down for more symmetry, but I like the more natural look. Plus the more material I remove, the weaker the fork would get.
