Let me tell you a story. Sometime in the late 1970's, I stumbled across a picture of a target shooting slingbow in the back of a Japanese toy catalogue. The picture showed that it was elastic tube powered and built around a rifle stock. I couldn't read the text let alone buy the item in question, but the idea stuck in my head. In 1990 my college dormmate and I put together a plan to make one out of machined aluminium utilising a shear nut. We called it the linear bow. I had several cracks at it but my craft skills were never up to the task until about 5 years ago when I finally made one close to the original Japanese design for testing fin and spin stabilised slingshot ammo. It rocked, but was impractical for me to shoot anywhere outdoors.
