Started carving / skinning this ol knarly fork this morning that I picked up on a mooch somewhere......wood is harder than my head, and that takes a bit of doing !

One fork is pretty well rotted.....not sure it's worth my time to see if it'll make a shootable sling or not, but it has some really cool grain and character to it, and I may just finish it as a desktop paperweight, who knows.

What say the masses ?

I'd start by figuring out how much of that rotted fork can be removed. If I had enough 'good' wood I'd then saw a 'U' down into the natural crotch of the fork to bring back a reasonable fork length. Of course cut the good fork side to match. Cracks vs. Rot? I've done okay filling cracks with Epoxy, or SuperGlue mixed with sawdust. However, I've wasted too much effort trying to discover the end of rotted spots. I don't have a wood stabilizing system but would have already used it a few times so far. And finally. Stare at it for a week while you work on something else. My brain THINKS I can make ANYTHING work if I keep wishing it would!

I think that you have something. Wish that one tine was a little longer and in better health. If you had some cactus juice, you wouldn't have to use a vacuum chamber. Just let it soak a day or two then bake it at 200F for a couple hours. Sure would be beautiful.

So, I guess I'm saying YEA not nay.

You'll never get rich messing with a slingshot like that one.
But, you might have a great time puzzling out what to do with it next!
I vote to stay with it, and see where it leads you.
I def ain't in it for the money Ray, lol

I think there is a slingshot in there. Can you stabilize the rotted fork?
.

Not sure.....can't afford any resin like Drew and Dan Hood uses, but do have a full can of Pentacryl Wood Hardener I guess I could try ?
