[Flatband]

This was Ol Blue's version of a Starship. He called it his "Long Tom".

Blue was known for his love of naturals but he shot this a lot too. Him and his friend carved up a few of these back in the day.

I was lucky enough to get one from him. This one has to be over 40 years old.There are a few floating around.

Those two old timers made more then a couple over the years.

A real nice shooting Starship from a very generous old friend. God rest his soul.

Hey Joe, that pouch is an original pouch from Blue himself. That double cup design was his.

His design allowed you to shoot any size ball up to 1/2". I modified his to what I wanted which was a pouch specifically sized for the ammo used.

I had separate pouches for 3/8" up to 5/8" ammo. Blue and me were a very select few that used a double cup design. I couldn't understand ( nor could he ) why more people didn't use it.

BTW,the first double cupped pouch I ever saw was before I even met Blue. I saw it in an ad for a Blackhawk Hunting Slingshot from the American Slingshot Company back in 1964. Check out the ASC Blackhawk in the Vintage Slingshot forum.

Thanks for showing it off! I read a story somewhere about him shooting a can at around 100 yards. At least I THINK I read that?!

Yeah Mo, that story was true. It was at one of the ECST in PA. There was this can sitting by a bush on the upward side of a hill. The can had to be somewhere around 100 or more yards away.

Everyone is trying to hit this **** thing and nobody is touching it. We had guys like MJ , Nathan from SimpleShot ,Jim Harris I think, Bill Hays ,Treefork (Marty ) ,Dick Riley , and others,( I might have missed a few and maybe added someone or two that weren't there.

You get the idea-really good shooters. Blue comes strolling in and says "what you boys shootin at?". We pointed it out to him, He takes his "Long Tom" out ,loads up and fires and hits it square on the first shot and just quietly sat back down. We all just stood there shaking our heads.

The man was cool as ice. He was something else.
