Hi all,

Has anyone or does anyone have any experience using either the Perma-grit or dura-grit dremmel type rotary tool attachments?

I mainly sand and cut aluminium, wood and plastics with my dremel type tool...

I buy my rotary tool sanding drums in bulk but wondered if either of the above would be a better investment overall?

Any advice much appreciated..

Have you tried the sanding belt cleaning eraser trick? It's basically a raw rubber block. If you run your used drums over that, it'll clean and refresh it, almost like new, extending its life... those Dremel drums will last so much longer you might not be tempted by perma/dura grit?

As for the permagrit and duragrit drums I am sorry I can't comment because I haven't tried them but I'd imagine they'd get clogged up too and the cleaning eraser would come in handy as well?

Yes I use cheap silicone bathroom sealant.

I leave it in the tube and puncture holes and leave it to harden/cure. Then cut off what I need... works well for cleaning sanding belts, discs and drums.

I have seen people using the permagrit and duragrit and they look really interesting but not seen any real reviews.

I would much prefer to have 1 bit that does most of the hard work and then finish with a fine drum or paper..

I get through so many paper drums it just seems a waste....and a waste of time if one bit will suffice...

I stopped using my dremmel for sanding for that reason. Just going through to many of the new sander rolls. I switched to a palm sander since those seen to last way longer.

I have a drum/belt sander combination but I use the 12mm dremel a fair bit too and not just on cattys I tend to make lots of odds and sods..

I think I will purchase a single permagrit sanding drum and see how it performs and lasts before I buy a set.

I've been using an oscillating tool with triangle shaped sanding head. 60 grit will get things shaped out pretty quickly. Leaves a smoother surface from the beginning, where the Dremel tends to leave gouges and divots if you're not careful.
