I was looking for plywood yesterday to make a sling-X-bow, and I couldn't find any good stuff. All I could find was what looked like a few layers, then chipboard or something and then a few more layers. Kind of like a hybrid plywood chipboard thing. They had labelled it as plywood. What should I ask for specifically to get the proper plywood?

What about MDF Hawk uses this for his slingshots. But, you must use an MDF rated mask when cutting or sanding this material.

i just bought a pretty nice piece of 3/4" cabinet grade ply at Ace hardware for about 15 dollars yesterday but i know what you mean because lowes and home depot only have crap plywood around here.

Would MDF be ok for a sling-X-bow? I will be using strong bands launching relatively heavy projectiles.
And also, how easy is it to paint MDF?

MDF is used in half million dollar homes and as far as I know it has great variety of uses. It takes a stain and is famous for taking paint have having a glass like slick finish. You must mask with a mask specifically for MDF dust which results from sanding or any cutting.
