I wonder if you would get more muzzle velocity if you increased the volume of air prior to the release valve. I have to think that the pressure drops quite a bit as before the projectile leaves the barrel because of the volume of the barrel itself.

There is more than enough air at the muzzle when the projectile leaves.

Starting with 600 psi there is over 200 psi left at the muzzle.
