Here's a recent obsidian knife I made using semi traditional methods and materials.
I knapped the blade (I turned $100 worth of obsidian into a bucket full of gravel to get this), I attached it to nice piece of springbok horn using pine pitch glue and bound it with rawhide (sourced from a dog chew toy).

Very sweet @TriggerHappy

I did some knapping for 3-4 years, but mostly slabs of Obsidian, all kinds of glass, and some flint occasionally.
I never could get the hang of percussion knapping, so I stuck with slabs so as not to waste resources.

I would post a couple pics, but don't want to hijack your thread.

What is the difference between flint and obsidian? I've have probably walked over tons of one or the other. Whatever comes from volcanoes.

Hey brother, Obsidian is basically volcanic glass.....can be found in many colors, and Flint is a type of rock, which also comes in many colors. Both have excellent Conchoidal fracture properties, which is what makes for good flint knapping materials

I had a friend, now deceased, who was a master flint knapper. I was always amazed at what he was able to do with a rock and a few simple tools. I've tried it but never developed the level of skill needed, but I have a lot of appreciation for folks, like you, who have the touch. Nice work.

Hey thanks very much GP. Man I live for those primitive skills, I think I would've made a great caveman. It started with simply making my own hunting gear to take deer with but fell in love with making functional primitive replica's.
Flint knapping is a funny thing, it can be frustrating when things don't go to plan, normally I aim to make a knife blade and end up with an arrowhead. Maybe give it a go again, with a bit of patience and eye protection it might all fall into place for you this time around
