OK I said I would not do it but as a recovering knife maker I cannot help myself
Found this at the hardwood store for five dollars
Just saw a Hathcock sniper carved out of that
Pros and cons
I've used Purple Heart inoverlays and In laminated bows and glued in pieces but never a solid piece
Is it strong enough
It's funny being a master blade Smith and I don't know where to start Lol
Damm u guys !!!
You all make such good looking "shift"

I would think probably not I would think I would have to cut it in slabs and use some titanium a little Bacote and a curly maple accents but I don't have the tools for that
My knife shop is in San Diego where I cannot use it my wife and my kid are trashing it but I regress
and I am in Idaho living the dream but
To start A whole new hobby don't have the money for the tools
Just thought it would look nice for only five dollars I give it a shot

The trouble with making a slingshot out a board like you picture is there are going to be areas where there is not much wood and straight grain. Example - the area right below the band ties on the Hathcock Target Sniper. If you get a fork hit or drop the slingshot it will split along the grain in that narrow area. The better option would be to saw the board to get two thinner boards and use a metal or plywood core or another board with the grain 90° to the purple heart as a core.

I dunno.... Purpleheart is a rather strong wood and you have a nice thick board there.

If you have your heart set on that HTS, give it a try. Once completed, put it in a vice and put some very strong rope or nylon webbing across the tops of the forks and try to break it. The worst scenario is that it breaks and you have some small scraps for other projects.

If it were a thin board or a much weaker wood I would say don't do it. The last thing you want to do is injure yourself or someone else.

I am not an expert on aything... But as any artist knows, if you have to, you have to... Then there is one sure way to know if it works

Failure often isn't as disappointing as the regret of not trying

Purple haze has morphed into 4-6 opfs rough cut last night with the saws I have
today I will square everything off sand everything and get it ready and shaped
one Opfs this Purple Heart should make some beautiful little shooters
Thinking about a Snail PFS looking for the leftover piece a Purple Heart maybe
Might just make 10 opfs by then I should have it down gives me time to find nicer hardwood so this should make some pretty nice ones and also give me some great practice wood
