I dunno.... Purpleheart is a rather strong wood and you have a nice thick board there.
If you have your heart set on that HTS, give it a try. Once completed, put it in a vice and put some very strong rope or nylon webbing across the tops of the forks and try to break it. The worst scenario is that it breaks and you have some small scraps for other projects.
If it were a thin board or a much weaker wood I would say don't do it. The last thing you want to do is injure yourself or someone else.
