Aloha, Bro!

That stain looks really nice.

But it really set off the short grain just below the band mounting ears on the the forks.

I love the R-10, but I made my copy with ply, just because it's hard to find a good grain orientation with a hardwood and this design. I'm thinking of making another in micarta.

If you get a fork hit, please inspect that short grain very closely before continuing to shoot. It looks a little sketchy to me!

Great work - but like KawKan - get real nervous looking at that grain - its looks potentially super weak right at the wrong spot below the banding area.

Its always worth doing a 'vice test' to check strength on solid wood board cuts - and always check after any fork hits.

I'm busy making one in a paper reinforced phenolic plastic (essentially silk Micarta or Tuffnol) - its a tough material for frame making, and works well with basic hand tools. Though Birch ply is also a great inexpensive choice.
