I've had a universal tip S1 core sitting in a box gathering dust for months now, and I finally got around to doing something with it. I'm going on vacation this coming week and wanted to take it with me. I present the S1 Deer Slayer!

I'm a big time hunter, and antler just seemed the obvious choice for handle scales. I stabilized this antler to make it more crack proof. Antler is extremely strong while it's on the deer, but after it dries out it gets very brittle when it's thinned out. Stabilization (and gorilla super glue) will help prevent that from happening. This isn't from a deer I killed, but it's a whitetail antler nonetheless. I didn't wanna cut up any of my big bucks lol.

The build materials are whitetail deer antler, bone colored linen micarta, and copper pins. This will be my go to hunting frame, and most likely my edc for a while after it's finished. I can't wait to get it banded! If everything goes according to plan, tomorrow night I'll be shooting it. This is my first true multi piece build, and I couldn't be more pleased with how it looks already and can only imagine what it'll look like finished. It's gonna be thick I know, but that only means it'll handle the absolute heaviest of hunting setups. When you're slinging lead, heavy bands are required. I plan on adding a lanyard of some kind, just haven't figured out what yet. I'm debating between blaze orange, camo, or braided artificial sinew. I'll update the thread once it's all glued up, but for now here's where we are.
Thoughts, comments, and opinions welcome and wanted!

Looks good, but why are you using copper wire instead of a stronger copper braising rod for the pins? I've never built a layered frame but this is the first time that I've recognized the wire and now you've got me curious :)
I'm using what I could find at my local hardware lol

Well guys, I have some unfortunate news. The S1 Deer Slayer is being put on the back burner for right now. I'm gonna have to go back to the drawing board with it. I thinned the handle of the core out way to much, and using double pieces of 3/8 thick micarta on both sides made it entirely to thick. I will update as soon as possible, but in the meantime, enjoy this picture of an Evo I put together with water buffalo horn and stabilized wood of some kind. It isn't finished yet, but it's well on the way!
