Sharpened tapers... Any thoughts?

1397 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  High Desert Flipper
Just found this cutting template that does sharpened papers at sling shooting.com. Was reading a little bit about them and it looks pretty interesting just wonder if anyone has any experience or thoughts on the speed orb and longevity.

Cheers

Tapered bandsets are a staple for most flatband shooters. There is a slight compromise on longevity but the pros outweight that for most of us. A safe and predictable point of failure and better speeds with a lighter draw is preferable.

I don't know why they'd call it a "sharpened taper" because there isn't anything sharp about that. IMO, that's a stepped taper. Regardless, its a taper and the basics of why a taper works still applies. However, I would be doubtful of their claims until someone does an experiment to prove those claims. I think its a gimmicky and unnecessary version of a taper but to each his own and I could wrong... sometimes it's just a battle for differentiation, if it's something that grabs you, give it a go and experience it for yourself coz you'll never really know till you try it for yourself and have your own comparison with a regular taper...

Thanks for the replies, I do know about extreme tapers...I do a 30x15 with .6mm and get 290fps with a 36" draw with ⅜" steel. Same latex at 25x20 but much faster.

Urban what I would like about the steep taper is being able to cut a set of bands at say 7" and then trim them down to max draw without losing my ideal taper. I guess I will have to try them to see.

Cheers
Let us know how it works for you when you do try it!
