In my younger days, I'm 58, I used to love to go and play paintball with my son. Slingshots, however, were forbidden - something about them exceeding the 250 FPS rule. Okay, from what I have read in the forum it is pretty much impossible to exceed the 250 FPS threshold even with heavy bands and lead ammunition. I can understand the paintball field operator not wanting a "device" that can exceed 280 FPS - the speed that can overcome the elasticity of human skin, thus causing a cut - but if a slingshot can't, why not allow them? Paintball being an elaborate game of "tag"
would be a whole lot more fun, and much less expensive, if the participants could use short range, single-shot slingshots. I'd like to hear your input.

I used to run the college paintball team. I once got hit in the temple by a hot gun (shot by the site operator!). It knocked me over and d_mn near concussed me. Luckily for his head and my clean rap sheet, I was grabbed before I could wrap my CO2 cylinder round his.

ZDP-189 I feel your pain. I can recall going to the chrono station with everyone else and logging in at 250FPS or less. Then little Timmy with his Dark Matter -3000 ( which by the way his mommy bought for him) goes out onto the field and with the flick of a hex wrench is zippin' those puppies out at well over 300 FPS! If you have a slingshot it's going to be pretty hard to increase your FPS. Does anyone on our forum have a chrono that can give us some accurate velocity measurements with .68 caliber paintballs?

Oh, and just for clarification folks. I'm talking hypothetically about .68 and .50 caliber PAINTBALLS. If you even give a thought about shooting at another human being without his or her WRITTEN permission may you spend the rest of your days in a cell with Mongo the Magnificent.

Yeah, if you ever see someone with a pentel mark on the dial of his gun, refuse to play. That's where he's determined that it will be safely under the mark and once he's on the hex key comes out and he'll flick it up a quarter turn. Ironically, hot balls shoot flatter but then tumble off into wild arcs beyond around 20 yards. I used to prefer sites that would pat down people for hex keys.

I used to be very competitive till my testosterone and adrenalin got to a level where I was an unpleasant chap to be around before, during and after the weekend. Then I chucked it in, gave away my guns and took up skydiving, a much more relaxing and unstressful sport by comparison.

I just shot 5 paintballs through my chrony at 25', and the highest velocity I got was 187 FPS. This was done shooting my Coffee Bean Laminate, Pocket Shooter with Tex's Express Bands. Just for reference, I shoot 1/2" steel ammo, with an average of 185 FPS.

Jim, thanks very much for that chrono study. I understand that the field operator has to pay for milk and bread like the rest of us and allowing someone with a slingshot to play, who will shoot maybe 30 rounds "allll daaay" ,is not going to be making a whole lot of money. I'd be willing to pay an enhanced field fee to go up against some true hunters - not a kid with a Dark Matter -3000 with a weekend inventory of 4,000 rounds (which his mommy paid for). If we ever get a tournament in Texas, I know of at least two who would be willing to go up against the best in the sport. Heck, I'd consider it an honor to be taken out by the likes of you!

No problem Pawzzz...

Frodo...not sure how much the weigh...the bottle says Premium Grade, made by Procaps. They are regular size paintballs however. I also have some of the small paintballs that Slingshots USA sells. I take these to the youth events I instruct.
