Hi everyone! I've been shooting alone in my backyard for the longest time and although it serves as a meditative time for me, it'd be nice to shoot with like minded folks from around the area and just hang and discuss everything slingshots. So I set out to find a venue where guys, gals and kids could meet to have a fun time with the simple joy of slingshooting. Ready with a few banded wide width SimpleShot frames that I had, a bit of clay and a catchbox with a paper target, I approached a local brewery (The Four Horsemen Brewery) sitting on a 4 acre lot and asked if our group (I had none) could have a weekly gathering and showed them how to shoot. The owner was thrilled of how slingshot frames have progressed and was excited about the event and that it was in line with the activities they wanted. They gave us an area where we could set up and leave our targets and you could easily practice long distance shots from a hundred plus feet away. Overcome with joy of finally having a venue in my home state, I created an fb group called The Evergreen Slingshooters Of Washington State. We're a small group for now but we expect the number of members to pick up in time for summer. Please feel free to join us if you're from around the Sound and if the loneliness of backyard shooting is getting to you! Here are some pics from our first meet up;

Oh yeah, did I mention they serve beer and have a food truck on the premises? lol. It's a really family friendly place too for your dogs to run around and there are beginner targets for kids and were constantly adding new stuff to make it enjoyable for all.

We usually meet up every Sunday after lunch and I'm excited to meet you! Thanks everyone!

That's nice that they are receptive. I can see a lot of places decline because of insurance reasons. A little far for me, but maybe someday!
The venue is just off of 18 and accessible to both East and West shooters. If you decide to swing by for a shoot, we'll welcome you with open arms! 😁

Excellent! I’ve got a cousin out that way that needs to get out of the house more. I’ll let him know!
That's great to hear!! We'd love to have him join our tribe! kindly let him know about the fb group. We had fun the last time and it was mostly new shooters who picked up pretty quickly. Thanks for the kind words brother!🙏

Excellent initiative ! Please keep us posted on how this progresses over time. What you need now are a few local sponsors to help you organize tournaments and pay for prizes.

In this context, you may find the new World Slingshot Association quite relevant: WSA - World Slingshot Association | WSASlingshot.com
Thank you for the encouraging words brother! It was just born out of necessity and the need to reach out to other shooters. I'll definitely provide updates on the group's progress and the activities we do. I really hope it grows so we can encourage the community to get out and enjoy what we love. Beer! Oh yeah, slingshots too... lol. 😂

Ps, Thanks for the WSA link! I welded some target stands per WSA specs for knockdowns.

Good job. Though I am just getting into slingshots I have been down this road. The key to it IF YOU WANT SOMETHING GET OFF YOU ASS AND DO IT AND DON’T WAIT FOR SOMBODY ELSE TO DO IT FOR YOU. For example I lived in an HOA that did not allow archery or air rifle. There was land available so I petitioned the HOA board for several years and got the green light. It became so popular the HOA, after about 10 years, spent $100K building a very nice shooting range & buildings. I started air rifle field target matches and people came from all over Texas and surrounding states. Several other field target clubs sprung up around Texas from that. Point I am trying to make it takes one person with a vision and drive to make big things happen. To me this is natural. I am a Texan. It’s just the way i was raised. If you want something do it, build it, make it happen. Too many people sit on their ass wanting something but want others to do the hard work to make it happen. Be that person. It’s a lot of work but if you love it you will have a great time building something you want from nothing and meeting great friends along the way.

I am in the suburbs North East of Seattle.
I see that you are South of Seattle, at least 1 hour drive.
I wish you all the luck.

I will continue shooting aroung my house.
Sometimes 15 minutes with my slingshot is all I need.:)
Thanks for the encouragement! Even if the "range" is a stone's throw from my place, I still like my contemplative alone time in my backyard where I can think. Only when I'm feeling sociable and need interaction ( and trying aerial shots) do I go. hehe.

That was a great story! It's encouragement like this that makes me excited to go out and do more. I also have something other than church to look forward to when the weekend comes around. This'll be my contribution to the community and I have a mission of changing the negative image of slingshots to one of a fun pastime/ hobby/ sport that anyone can enjoy.

You are more persistent and your HOA is much more enlightened than mine.

My neighbor HOA board member (and massive bully) decided to adopt rules and regulations preventing any kind of projectile shooting weapon and used his other HOA friends to adopt those.
Those rules were cause by me apparently making too much noise (according to him) doing archery and shooting air guns and slingshots.
Now that prick moved away and my new neighbors (for a few years) don't seem to mind.

That neighbor was what you might call the HOA alpha male.
I miss him, mostly because I can no longer do the little things that annoy him :)
