Not sure about this post, Mattwalt if this is a little "out of character" for this forum, feel free to scrub it.

Anyway, been hot here. My shooting pard has been coming less since school started, so I have been shooting a little in doors. Been staying hydrated maybe a little to much. (Bud light). So hugo (pard) shows up about an hour before dark.

I said "I don't know Lad, I've been hitting the beer and I don't think that is a good example to set for young men". Anyhow, we went outside and shot. Man I shot better than I have for days. Come to think of it, I was loaded last time I shot like that!

So...We talk and talk about release. Once you get your stance and anchor point down, it is ALL about release. Sober, I just can't make myself let that last little bit of pressure off to make a clean shot. I call it the yips. I suspect a lot of us would improve if not for them. Drinking dulls the senses and throws balance and timing off. But it also calms the nerves.

Now I'm not advocating that we turn into a bunch of toss pots, I bring this up to say how important that last little half second is to accurate shooting. There must be some way..some exercise... some tonic that I/we could follow that would help this delicate condition. This sport is just like shooting a pistol. You get the yips and you might as well pop the slide, rack her open and go on home.

LOL... TBH I shoot better pool after a beer or two (though not say 6...).

Probably not a great idea with guns :) - but assume it takes a little of the over-concentrating out of the equation.

Bud Light though??? Not to 'down' what's possibly your favourite tipple - as a fervent beer drinker (though not t be classed as a Hipster craft brew type) I've not been impressed with Bud generally.

Corona is for rich guys and social drinkers. Craft brews are for richer guys and snobs. Bud is what my neighbors drink and I try to have some on hand for them. Being a poor man on a fixed income, I drink what they drink... especially if the're buying! Only time I ever said no is when they asked me if I'd had enough. :alky:

For 'regular' beers -

Sure Q will agree with this - Sagres and Super Bock in Portugal are amazing, and they're cheep :) In fact can be way cheaper than soft drink...

2M - Mozambique

Tsingtao - China

Cobra - UK (Rice beer)

Windhoek Lager - Namiba (South Africa)

Amstel Lager

Fosters - Australia

Staropramen - Czechoslovakia

and...quite a few others.

Grolsh / Duvel / Erdinger / Hoogarten / Hofbrau - A Bavarian breakfast at the brewery is good ;-) ... for the flush days

Craft Brew has hit this part of the world like a freight train - but they're mostly over-hopped, and often not that great. But there are a few good ones in the mix.

Pictured: SJAaz ready to start shooting in earnest :D

(just kidding. Picture is actually from the Drunken Master. Great kung-fu film starring Jackie Chan. I need to photoshop a slingshot in place of the bottle.)

Life's too short to drink diet beer! If I'm cutting calories, I'll forego the second donut or stick with the small order of French Fries.

Real men don't drink fizzy yellow beer!!! :nono: My neighbors drink Miller Light, so I'm not mooching his beer and he's not asking for mine!

I still love ya tho, SJAaz !!!

Yep all shooting is about relaxing and repeating the actions that sends that projectile down the middle.
Only mistake I can see is that it should have been Corona lol

An Irish Stout or local Appalachian equivalent is good. A Dunkel is great!

For light beer I like Newcastle or any good brown ale.

CJW, you have fine taste, buddy. There is a lesser fine equivalent to those in Innis & Gunn I sometimes can get & a touch weaker Yuengling I love. Also it is cheap...

All that said learn to make brown beer gravy and your journey to the Dark Side will be complete. 12oz beer (any will do. Some will do better), 4 oz milk (more fat more flavor).

Bring flour, grease (last it was bacon and pork shoulder fat), salt, black pepper, and thyme (powered, not as much flavor, but 0 teeth picking) to a slow low-medium heat. Whisk the devil out of it. (Sip same beer). add milk and beer slowly until it thickens.

Poor over mash, roastes vegetables, and meat alike. (sip more beer).

I usually have a nap before I shoot after this recipe...

There's a can cutting game I play on occasion while hydrating called "catch-up" and can definitely confirm there's a goldilocks zone where shots don't seem to miss. That's about the time I start asking the targets if their name is Sarah Connor in a Scandinavian accent right before launching into the badguy speech from Scarface. Yeah. It gets crazy here
