A friend in Facebook who resides in Austrailia posted me this in response to a note about my slingshots and this forum.
I've not heard slingshots refered to as "Shanghais" before, at least as far as I remember.
I replied that it was interesting how many places slingshots were still in use to fill the pot on a regular basis.
I thought it was a pretty cool note to read.Oh hey Mike, when i was doing my fieldwork with central desert aborigines, the kids used to make really good shanghais out of old inner tubes from car tyres. The boys, still traditional hunters and gatherers, could shoot birds out of the sky, on the fly, with them. I think there's a story I wrote in my notes, here on fb, about it. If not, I'll put the story up in the next few days.
