Just got notification that my Taurus OTT sling is to be delivered today, I will change the band configuration as soon as I get it to what @ironarmknives posted on his band set up, change the pouch or cut it down if need be, and take it out today if it is not to windy. I really want to see how it shoots and see if it I get finger slaps, I really hope not as this is going to be a target only set up, but I will report on it. I'm hoping the Taurus OTT works for me as I really want it to. I'm looking to set up a place in my office building to do some serious target shooting, I want an accurate target sling set up... no, no, no not my Cheapos or my F-16's that I love for the field or hunting, this is for target shooting only.

I want a sling that is dedicated for flats only as you can get a sharper view of your aiming point and your target. The BoneGrip non PFS sling may well be the answer also as the PFS one I have is an extremely comfortable slingshot and I think would bode well in competition. The other option is a Chinese Flatband Stainless Steel sling with the sharp very nice corners to be used for aiming, don't know if I would use sights or not !!!

Now comes the serious questions !!

1) Which band material do you folks like .... I was just thinking on SimpleShot's black precut in a size for 5/16 Steel, maybe 18mm x 12mm or go one higher 22mm x 15mm for extra speed if I shoot outdoors or maybe decide on 3/8" for target ??.

2) What ammo size do I want ?? Is 5/16" size used most of the time in serious competitions you guys shoot, or do folks go with 3/8" because of the stability with wind if you shooting outdoors. Also do you shoot a different size ammo outdoors than indoors ?? and are most of the USA competitions outdoors, I don't know ?

3) Have you shortened up your draw for a more secure anchor point as you are not really going to power per se !

If you guys can think of any other things that target shooters may do ... besides practicing their %$#*S off, please post, I'm very interested.

Well here is a pic, she just arrived. The sling is smaller then I thought for sure, put on my around the fingers lanyard, that keeps it tight in my hand. I did the @ironarmknives band attachment way and now I'm heading out to the boonies. Lets see if she performs the way I would want a target slingshot to perform ...

That's a good shooter, Wll. I think you will enjoy it.

As of last fall, most US tournament shooters were still shooting 3/8 steel. Although 5/16 is definitely growing in popularity.

As far as flat bands are concerned, I'm growing fond of some of the thinner stuff, like the .55 mm. Easy to draw and very snappy.

I shot an OTT Taurus last summer but switched to a TTF version in late autumn. My fav ammo for these frames is 7mm and 8mm (5/16") steel. bands are usually .45 to .55mm with around 18-12 to 19-13 cut. Speed clocks at around 200-240fps. I prefer a light draw weight of no more than 8 1/2 pounds. I anchor on my ear and walk the ear as needed. The Mini-Taurus is a wonderful design. I have 2 TTF models and 1 OTT.

Got out to my spot and at 4pm and the wind was howling, I could not hardly stand up.

I fitted the Taurus on my hand with my finger sling (which is looped around the right fork and through the lanyard hole) and wore my modified archery glove as I always do. Trying out a new band attachment method on a sling that you never shot, in a wind that is gusting 20-25 mph is not the smartest thing.... but no one ever accused me of being intelligent ????

I get back to about 18 yards and do my best not to flinch in case I shoot myself in the index finger as it rides in the bottom of the horn of the sling.

Here we go ....... and..... ???? The 5/16" steel ball comes out like a bullet and misses my target by inches :') .... no finger slap, nothing. I do it over and over and this thing is shooting great. I take off the shooting glove and get a mild slap once in a while, but that is all, it was no big deal.

I find one of my 3/8" steel balls on the ground (I could make a joke here, but I won't) and see how well that does, and it shoots them hard and true, I was actually surprised at the speed from these 3/4" wide bands. That is the width of the attachment, and when I saw that attachment width I thought this is not going to work, no way ---- I was very, very wrong !.

I may have a target shooter here ? The finger sling is holding everything together as the Taurus is quite small and does not give me much to hold on to. The bottom lanyard tie may need to be modified to hold a pinky brace. I'm going to work after shooting tomorrow and see if there is something I can use to stop my pinky from sliding off the end of the short handle, It is not doing it now because of the big knot at the end, but it is close -- I would like it to be a little cooler looking also ;- )

I will take the Taurus out tomorrow morning when hopefully it is not windy, Here it is in my hand showing the size compared to my hand ---- it is small !!!

I'm out shooting at 7am and it already seems like its 100 degrees

The Taurus shoots very smooth, but the pouch that came with it is very, very small and hard to load. Even the 7mm steel balls (21.6gr) that came with the sling were difficult to load, but were absolute lightning bolts when shot.

My first shot in the morning was wild and I thought I had a fork hit but I didn't (I checked from top to bottom a few times and found nothing). I have an idea the ball was not centered well and it was an erratic shot, I have more hand slap when using those 7mm balls also which is understandable. The flats give a very nice sighting plane compared to tubes as the visual line of sight to the target is narrower and easier to be more precise.

I must say I'm impressed with speed and feel good about using this outdoors for target in the 20-25 yard range, it shoots flat. Getting use to the fork tip as an aiming point needs a little work on as I haven't done that style exactly like that in a while.

Heading to the office to work on some type of pinky support but we will see.

The below pic was a smack at around 18 yards using 5/16" steel on a steel Xmas ornament hung loosely from a section of paracord ---- it smacked the target very hard !!!
