When I'm wrapping the stretching tape, I put 2 wraps around the frame first to give the bands a solid base. Some slingshots have a slippery finish and this keeps them from sliding out from under the wrapping tape.
Then I wrap as much of the tape around it as will fit, which is like 2 feet on the Taurus... You don't need that much, but this way, I can unwrap a broken band, put a new one on and retie it with the same tape. I loose an inch or 2 of the wrap material every time I have to retie, but it just gets shorter. I use it until it's eventually too short to retie.

For nattys and a couple of resin slingshots that don't have band grooves, I put a small (about 1/2") piece of double sided Scotch tape between the bands and frame. Tremendously increases the friction and the band will break before it slips off. The tape will usually last several band changes. Doesn't need to be too sticky. Just that little bit something extra for the band to grip. In reality it's overkill, but I've been the victim of Murphy's Law more than once!
