Thumb Up Shooting Am I the only one

2248 Views 30 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  skarrd
I shoot short draw anchor beside mouth cheek area. Ive been shooting thumb up since I started, I had also seen a vid of Dgui shooting his "softshooting" thumb up. I know he does it the other draw as well. But the thumb has stuck. I shoot like poop thumb down. Just wondering if anybody else has this habit. Im doing ok, but when you see everybody else doing it the other way it makes you wonder ,

thanks

If you are loading the photo using a phone you have to edit the photo before it will be in the proper orientation. I just crop the photo slightly. I don't know why they just won't load without an edit.

When I shot with a short draw I shot thumb up. When I went to a longer draw thumb up didn't feel comfortable so I went thumb down. I start with the thumb down. I don't turn it as I draw back.

I feel thumb down is a much cleaner release because you can open both finger and thumb at the same time. Thumb up I can only raise my thumb. I can't lower my finger at the same time. At least this is the case for me.

I have kind of an odd grip. I shoot short draw but I anchor at my cheekbone and then put a twist on the pouch so that the hole between my thumb and forefinger lock into the bottom of my cheekbone. Then I let the ammo "slip" through my fingers when I release. Cuts down on fork hits for me at least, let's me get a good look down the bands and feels like I can always guarantee a solid anchor since my cheekbone never moves. The twist doesn't seem to affect my accuracy at all. I can anchor at the lip too but it freaks me out for some reason I'm unsure of. I guess I'm more willing to take a shot to the safety glasses than to my lip .

I learned to shoot thumb up, but over time ,I've gone to thumb nail against the corner of my mouth. Half BF, my nail points down.

Ditto - I use a pinch pouch.

Unless I am shooting my golf ball launcher and then it is thumb up in a caliper release.

I shoot with my thumb on bottom and pointer finger on top.

Try taking the photo with your phone turned sideways.

Here is an explanation.

I go thumb up right on top of my cheek bone with my other fingers touching my jaw bone for a two-point anchor.

My cheekbone is fairly prominent so the curve kind of suits a thumb up style, for repeatability. Even for archery, I incorporate my cheekbones lol.

This pic is forever in my mind. I used to study Dguis vids at 25% speed, I realized Ill never be able to shoot anything like The Man. But the thumb up stuck, even though I anchor at the mouth. If I could shoot like anybody in the world, it would be Darrel

This is from his rock shooting vid, if you havent watched it, you should
