Tramontina machete, mods

572 Views 16 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Sandstorm
I picked up one of these Brazilian beauties at my local home Depot the other day to mod up for a bush chopper/ craft tool.

So far I drilled out one of the pins in the handle and put in a aluminum tubular rivet in that way I can add a lanyard. Also added ranger bands too.

Gotta make a sheath now lol.

Also I am going to strip the epoxy finish on the blade and try doing a forced patina on it as it is listed as having a carbon steel blade.

Nice! Yeah I’ve been torn on the big blades. Part of me wants a machete and part wants a kukri. Looks good so far and best of luck with the forced patina. Gonna be a nice looking blade by the time you’re all done with it.

I got my daughter that machete a few years ago for camping. It's her favorite due to the quality and small size. My favorite is the SOG Raptor. Another small one, with a saw back.

The ranger bands were ok but I like the feel of this stitched leather better. :)

I just picked this up recently. Japanese made for 1950 Korean Military. Got some heft. Gonna work the blade first and then figure out the handle I taped over for now.

I think if I can sharpen, get a nice patina on this blade and make a sheath for it, I'll be ready for whatever lol :)
