I have a bunch of leftover "Trex" scrap from my nephew's deck project. From time to time I'll crank out a frame from one of the blanks. This frame is a Pocket Shooter that just didn't feel right in my big Mitt so we went ahead and bored a hole in the handle- "A la Perry from A+ Slingshots" style. Went a little big on the hole figuring two fingers in the hole was better then one for gripping. Feels real good! The walls of the hole are a little thin but what the heck if I drop it and it breaks,we'll just go to the scrap heapp and make another. Gotta love making things from someone else's throw aways!!!!! Thanks guys. AKM, I just sand and then dip it in Polyurethane-(Gloss). With this stuff ,being that it's a mix of a bunch of materials, getting a good smooth finish is tough. I keep sanding and then dipping and then hanging in a covered box to dry. I do this about 5 times with this stuff and the finish has usually built up enough for a decent shine. Flatband
Yeah, I also think this stuff is cool. Kinda reminds me a bit of Granite. Hey, there's a future project for a stone mason-A slingshot out of some type of stone-maybe Italian Marble-Cool!! ( Probably been done already?) Flatband
Very interesting design.
I experimented with Trex (purchased from Home Depot) and found it to be not suitable for use.... dropping it, it breaks easily, fork hits destroy it immediately, and it's tensile strength is so low that I can break the handles off with a twist of my wrists.
Sooo be careful Gary!
Wow! Didn't know it was this weak Bill. I'll have to try the "Strength Break". This is older stock ( few years ago) so maybe the newer stuff is different? We'll check it out. These aren't for sale-just made this one for me so if anyone gets a "Boo Boo" it will be yours truely! Flatband
