Having been away from catapults since 1955, I am learning about how bandset materials have evolved.
These few draw weight tests don't look much but are helping me understand what is really going on:
(In brackets are the names of the catapults where this bandset is installed)
Draw weight kg at 2x 3x 4x 5x "Feel"
Theraband Gold 20-15mm 1.7 2.5 3.3 3.8 Responsive, lively
(Curiously Strong)
Square rubber 4.75mm 4.3 8.0 More weight than I want
(1860 Victorian)
Chinese orange
flatbands 20-15mm 1.5 2.5 3.4 Like Theraband Gold
(cheap Chinese catapult)
Tube 5mm, natural colour 1.4 2.4 3.1 Very interesting, compact
(no catapult yet)
Based on these results, I am making an experimental bandset with doubled 5mm rubber tube, i.e. 4 lengths of tube, guessing that this will give me about 6.2 kg at 4x stretch and should look neat.
No news here for experts, I guess, but I am enjoying the learning experience.
