Working on a new Magnolia ergo natty that’ll have a nice butt cap of contrasting wood, maybe some blue G10 spacers.

I love working Magnolia as it usually has amazing and crazy grain patterns, only bad thing is it STINKS, lol.

Another of my little PPS ( Perfect Pocket Shooter ) frames started this morning out of a very symmetrical 85mm fork spread, Crepe Myrtle natty.

It is kind of small, but will attempt a butt cap and maybe some wood-burning as decoration.

Hadn’t seen the PPS in a while! Glad they’re still in the lineup! There’s also the chance I wasn’t paying attention 😝

How long have you let the Myrtle dry ?
That one was still green when I stripped the bark off of it yesterday morning, but I popped it in the microwave for 3 sessions of approximately 1 minute each, letting it cool between sessions.

I then let it sit on my desk at work in front of a little heater I have, and by lunch time it was dry enough to sand and work……and the heat felt GOOD, as it’s been back down in the high 20’s in Georgia the last couple of mornings…..Brrrrrrr

Always a PPS or 10 working Ryan, LOL……I’ve probably got 20-30 of them ready for butt caps, just need to hit Lowe’s up for some more 1/4” dowel rods as I’m totally out.

I need to make me a cutter for them that I can rip oversized blanks down from 2 x 4’s and make my own by chucking the blanks in my drill and running them thru the cutter.

They don’t need to be perfectly round ( as in store bought) as their just a means to an end so I can attach butt caps.

Thank you. And the microwave treatment sounds interesting. Same here with the cold mornings but beautiful full sun. I have had a fork sitting in the sun for a few days bringing it in at setting it under my shop bench light.

Getting ready to attach the butt cap to this one…..gonna have blue G10, copper, Jcharmin92 scrap, copper, blue G10, then a chunk of some kind of tropical hardwood to cap it off.
I’m not sure what the hardwood is as it came off of a pallet, but it smokes when I cut it…..hard as hell whatever it is.

Another good option for drying forks is also what I do, but I keep a 5 gallon bucket of them in the back of my truck in the summer inside the cab, and the heat really dries them out quick

I finished this Spring Breaker Twist and canted the forks. It doesn't have an Oak core any more because one of the sides popped off (probably becasue it was 19 outside when I was shooting it), but it's way more comfortable to shoot now and the epoxy left a really cool satin pattern on the wood (you can kind of see it in the photo).
