No, that piece is definitely not Elm, that was the pic you asked for end grain pics of, that is part of the butt cap on the Magnolia ergo I’m working on.That DOES look like elm. That outer bark really fooled me.
Me too...Now I'm really confused. Lol
Those are both really nice looking Steven. It’s kind of cool that you never know what kind of magic (grain) you’re going to run into inside a wooden frame.this has actually been the past couple days, but, they are both finished now, both were pieces i started and then put aside a while back, decided to finish them
1st one is super glue
2nd is rattle can semi gloss
both are oak

Ah, I see. I was thinking the natty was Kwanzaan cherry. The color of the hardwood blank is in line with finished Elm so I didn't even give it a second look. Every day's a school day.Chris, you had asked me if the small natty I started from Japanese Elm was actually sweet Cherry ( isn’t ) then on the ergo Magnolia natty with the tropical (mystery) hardwood butt cap, you asked for a pic of the end grain of it and that was the block of wood pics I sent the end grain pic of ( the tropical hardwood )
Clear as mud ? LOL
1st 2 pics are the Japanese Elm again, others are tropical hardwood.

thats some beautiful grain patterns and a wicked cool butt,,,,,,,that just sounds bad,but you all know what i meanGot the end cap shaped down after glue up on the ergo Magnolia natty this morning, and sanded to 180 grit so far.
I’d like to go as high on the grits as I can to hopefully “polish” the Copper spacers to as high a shine as I can achieve……2000 - 3000 grit maybe ?
