What are you building today?

Ok….so it’s no secret we all love build pics. On other platforms folks post build and progress pics all the time, so I thought it would be cool to start a thread where we could post what we’re working on, or an idea we have, or even a question. A place to share where we might not want to take up a entire thread. Just a hub for builders to hang out:)

I will start it off! Todays project was this HHPFS in the classic layout of polished bronze and aluminum! Still my favourite!

That DOES look like elm. That outer bark really fooled me.

No, that piece is definitely not Elm, that was the pic you asked for end grain pics of, that is part of the butt cap on the Magnolia ergo I’m working on.

Still messing around with this Oak Natty. I’m not sure if I should work on making it a little more symmetrical. I sort if like the slight curve it has. What do you all usually do about evening out the tops of the forks? As you can see, one’s a bit larger in circumference than the other.

i usually try whittling amlittle off of inside and outside of the chubby side, then rounding front and back sides with a file/rasp,then Lots of sandpaper,i would try and keep the curve [a little curve helps the PFS ]

Those are both really nice looking Steven. It’s kind of cool that you never know what kind of magic (grain) you’re going to run into inside a wooden frame.

Chris, you had asked me if the small natty I started from Japanese Elm was actually sweet Cherry ( isn’t ) then on the ergo Magnolia natty with the tropical (mystery) hardwood butt cap, you asked for a pic of the end grain of it and that was the block of wood pics I sent the end grain pic of ( the tropical hardwood )

Clear as mud ? LOL

1st 2 pics are the Japanese Elm again, others are tropical hardwood.

Got the end cap shaped down after glue up on the ergo Magnolia natty this morning, and sanded to 180 grit so far.

I’d like to go as high on the grits as I can to hopefully “polish” the Copper spacers to as high a shine as I can achieve……2000 - 3000 grit maybe ?

Ah, I see. I was thinking the natty was Kwanzaan cherry. The color of the hardwood blank is in line with finished Elm so I didn't even give it a second look. Every day's a school day.

Copied an old Bill "Tex-Shooter" Herriman pattern. Made from red oak, then stained with red mahogany and a coat of shellac. I'll take it out shooting tomorrow.
