I hate these kinds of scissors. Pinch my hand, it does.

So I cut them open.

Now I got two potential knives. Surprisingly, they are ready to be used.. the grip isn't all that uncomfortable.

However, I would like to wrap it in twine or plastic string or whatever.

Suggestions welcome.

Work knife/neck-knife. In case of self-defense, target throat and face or groin. After sharpening it'll open your guts, no problem.... very stabby stabby. Sharpening will make it slicey slicey as well.

A weapon of surprise, a weapon to make them cry. Make a sheath and give it to your wife or daughter to wear around her neck. Keep the other one for whatever.

Already got a lanyard hole if you would notice.

Those are thread shears or thread nippers used in any craft where thread is involved. They are designed for that specific purpose and it performs it perfectly. They are not meant to be used as scissors in the regular sense of its use. I use a thread shear when stitching leather work and whever I happen to have to sew anything. Admittedly, those thread shears have a very limited use but nothing works quite as well as one when I need to cleanly snip off an end of a thread.

But if you want to take one apart and use it as a knife, you can... though I am not sure that's optimal use

I want my money back! .... I was sold these as "nose hair clipper".

For precise work, I use a surgeon's scalpel.

Maybe not optimal. But certainly free... it's from rusty junk that I have no use for.

I'm Asian. "I Like Free Stuff" is my middle name.

Anyway, this is the idea:

"Lapel knives", "sleeve knives"... that kind of thing. Covert trouble is huge trouble for bad guy. When you find yourself in doodoo you will wish you had one of these handy.

Very nice.

I am using scalpels. For delicate work. And for EDC self defense. And for opening envelopes.

Shiny one is for when I go out.

Wrapped one is home use, crafting, etc.

Not much matches the sharpness of a surgical scalpel. Very very easy to slash side of throat. Or the back of your hand, cutting all the tendons. Or your wrist.

Something's wrong (or right) with me. I stay up nights thinking up ways to hurt people. It's in my blood (Chengis Khan mongol genes).

When I worked graphics, Exacto knives were de rigor, always sharp bc we'd change blades 3-4 times a day. Still my go to preference for most knife work.

Be extra careful trimming nostril hair with scissors or clippers - nasal membranes are super thin and vulnerable ... I'll spare the bloody details.

Why do you think I am not using these to trim nostril hair?

I didn't draw blood but one stab was enough to convince me that these are not for nostril hair.

I just pull my hair out with me thumb&fingers. I am more at ease doing that now than pointing this thing at my brain.

I prefer scalpels over Exacto cutters personally. Esp for graphics work. Actually looking at a folding one as EDC for a while.

Also been looking at those marking knife EDC things for a while - even looked at those multicoloured ones.

I'd remove the blade from those shears - and make a new handle for it.

I would too but I think there is a simpler solution.

This little bit here.. this is getting in my way. All need to do is get rid of this... cut it, grind it or file it away.

Then it's a simple matter of wrapping it in some way to make it more comfortable. I have a variety of cordage to choose from. I'll probably try jute twine first...

Or I buy that polymorphic plastic and make a handle around it. It'll be strong because it'll be gripping this handle.

I would love to have wood handles but I don't have the skills for that.

Finally found the darn tin-snips...

It's getting late... will probably file away tomorrow.

Think its well suited to making a simple nice handle.
It is indeed well suited for that.

However, I will feel bad if I leave it stuck in someone's eye and have to say bye bye to that handle which I took so much effort to make. I might even start crying.

Weapons need to have an expedient and/or expendable quality to them... I work on them just enough for them to work right. I never make them nice enough for me to be reluctant to use them and dirty them. That's just my theory anyways.

It's like the dirty no nonsense AK beating the snot out of the shiny beautiful M-16. Americans were reluctant to crawl through the mud and rice fields because their purtty guns jammed if they did that. The Kalashnikov and it's users had no such problem.

Cut off the little metal tab that was bothering me and filed away the remnant.

The lanyard around my finger is only for practice. It prevents my hand from sliding onto the blade. I might not have time to do this when doodoo hits the fan. But why get cut up in practice?

And the functional sheath. Made out of two pieces of cardboard glued with hot glue and wrapped with duct-tape.

Wood Electric blue Thumb Metal Tool

Yes, the sheath is fugly. That is because sheaths are a disposable item when it comes to fighting knives.

1. They are meant to be thrown in the face as you follow up with the blade. Some sheaths have a weight in the tip so that trick works better.

2. When you put the wet knife back into the sheath, you get rid of it when you go home or under the bridge or wherever. You don't clean it (the sheath). You make another sheath.

When I get sick of looking at that horrid sheath, I'll try and make a better looking one (of the same materials). Or make one that attaches to my belt... or under the sleeve...
