What do we do for a living? What is your short story?

Couple months ago I watched one of Zachary's Fowler videos on youtube and got into slingshots right away. I couldn't mountain biking or running anymore (at least not with the intensity I wanted to) and I needed something new for me to keep my mind straight (meaning out of work stress) and I just knew it's something for me. For a very short period of time I thought, that it (beign interested in slingshot) is something very rare around the world. On this forum I've met so many people who are so positively nut for slingshots, that I couldn't believe it at first. And obviously such a great community didn't come out of nowhere. Slingshots is what I find relaxing, enjoying, and very satisfying. From designing my own slingshots, through making them and shooting. Since all/most of us have something in common (slingshots of course) I am wondering what is your story? What do you do for a living? Starting from me - I am just an accountant. Accountant, who has two great kids, who really loves his work, and after it, when he is not doing archery, he spends some time with his slingshots, making them, shooting them, counting them and its ammo, and keeping some evidence on its efficiency, from velocity, through weight and ending at kincetic energy. Now let's find out something more about ourselves, if you don't mind :) I would be honored to get to know your short story :)

This is an awesome place with an awesome group of individuals.

My short story;

I am a precision machinist who runs a machine shop on Prince Edward Island. I'm 25 years old, been married to my best friend for 4 and a half years. We have 2 beautiful girls, a 3 yo and a 1.5 yo, I've had a slingshot in my pocket since I was a kid and the older I got the more I got into it. As I got older I got more into rifles and shot guns, but now that I have girls I shoot the flip more than anything and I take my daughters mountain biking about 4 times a week and we always take the slings with us. My oldest is getting to be a very good spotter! She can spot a squirrel in a tree like nobody's business!

Welcome to the obsession!

I have been working in the steel industry for 18 years in Canada. I have been a youtuber for 6 years doing bushcraft and wild camping as a hobby. I had a slingshot when I was young but I mostly shot fire arms as a kid and bow as an adult but bought my first flatband slingshot last year but barely shot it. I really caught the slinging bug this year in february. I am seriously hooked. I really enjoy cutting cans with my son. Target shooting after work is the best way for me to unwind!

Ok. Im an arborist (tree expert hence the name) by trade, but i have a background in woodworking. Ive always done cabinetry, green wood working, and I'm a self trained luthier. I love the "something from nothing" aspect of slingshots. I enjoy building them, but lately its the 'zen' of shooting that keeps me coming back. This forum and jts members mean the world to me, and I'm happy you've joined in. You are welcome here friend

I've been a police officer in my hometown for the past 23 years. Half that time has been in investigations. My investigations job for the past six years has been in forensics and crime scenes. Our quaint little town by the river is also really good for supplying dead bodies due to homicide, suicide, overdose and so on. It's a hopping little place. Because of national politics and a few bad actors law enforcement is no longer as well respected a profession as it once was. I've never shot anyone or committed a bias based act against anyone. I've worked my cases and crime scenes all with the intent to do the best job that I can for the victims and families involved in my cases.

I'm married to my best friend and other half. We have three daughters, 3, 8, 19. We lost a son in 2014. I'm coming close to retirement (25 years). I'll start a new career hopefully in public safety software after that. My wife currently works for our records management software company, so I know a chick that can get me an interview.

I got into slingshots as an adult in 2018 after taking some time to address some work related stress issues that were spilling over into my personal life. Apparently there is this thing called PTSD that comes from doing some stuff and seeing some things for a long period of time. Evidently this PTSD made me an anxious, paranoid asshole. The doctor gave me some little green pills that helped me to not be so anxious and so much of an asshole. I started to focus on family time and personal hobbies and found that knocking holes in cans is really satisfying and relieves stress. I'm a more functional human, better father and husband and all around great guy in part because of slingshots (and little green pills).

Grew up next to lake Eufaula in Oklahoma. Lots of building going on so my summers we're working on lake homes and chasing girls.
Off to college (more girls) after college I did chemistry for a big plastics outfit. I retired and went back to woodworking and an antique restoration business. Had the good fortune to work with the best wood finishers in this part of the country. Learned to make my own lacquers and varnishes. Finished for bout another 20. Now I'm retired again.
Spent 40 years competing in traditional archery but always had a slingshot handy. Just office rubber or linitex bands. Never really took to the tube thing.
I found this forum and a treasure trove of wonderful people that took me right in and taught me all kinds of new stuff. Mostly about friendship and generosity.

Lake Eufaula? Man, there are some serious Largemouth in there. At least there were when Tom Mann ( of Jelly Worm Fame ) fished there. Nice place to grow up in Joe!

I grew up in the mountains near Lake Tahoe, USA. I was destined to become a professional athlete and made it further than most. When that career choice faded I became a SCUBA Instructor so I could travel the world. I finished that career working for a Cruise Line. Just after that I began a career of collecting and de-collecting wives. Being a world traveler, physically gifted, trained as a musician and singer, with a PhD in the Art of Conversational Manipulation, I was recruited to work for Big Brother and have been stuck there for roughly 20 years off and on depending on the situation. This wasn't the best career choice for my personality because it resulted in 4 completely different worlds that I have lived and left. Many days I have wishes to be that guy that married his highschool sweetheart, had 5 kids, lived in my home town and was Captain of the Softball Team.
I found the Forum and these great people one day after web-surfing for a Pickle Boat. Oddly I had been shooting a slingshot since my first one I got around 1968 so it was fun and easy and a perfect distraction from the huge array of garbage that I have to process on a weekly basis. Due to the havoc I have unleashed in my life participating in the world of Social Media is not possible. However, this place and this Forum of great people has become the safe escape that I appreciate more and more each day! Sling-On!

I spent the first few years of my life in northern Germany back in the mid 1960's, and moved to Switzerland a few years later when my father found a job here.

It was also my very first flight in a Boeing 737 and the exhilarating experience of seeing the world from above that made me very eager to learn how to fly planes myself one day. After finishing school and working in different kinds of jobs to pay for my training, I eventually earned my Canadian CPL in the late 1980's. Unfortunately, the 1990's were years of severe recession and a major downturn in the airline industry, and I basically had to shelve the idea of being a commercial pilot towards the end of the 1990's - sadly. I subsequently went to a UK university to obtain a MA in technical translation (I am fluent in German and French), and have pretty well been doing that and other jobs since that time, along with landscape photography for tourism as a sideline income.

My renewed inspiration for slingshots came about in 2012, after watching numerous videos on YouTube. particularly those of a guy called Joerg. I very much enjoy reading about slingshot related issues and seeing the fantastic work presented here by the forum members, and sharing this interesting and fun hobby with all of you.

My story in a nutshell...

Worked in the veterinary field most of my life as a veterinary assistant, kennel manager and dog trainer. Worked about 10 years in retail loss prevention specializing in organized retail crime, plus internal investigations and credit card fraud. Covered about 40 stores in the NY, NJ and CT area. Currently in the community habilitation field where I work with individuals on the Autism spectrum to help achieve their life goals.

Been an avid shooter since about 10 years old. Rifle, pistol and shotgun. Shooting airguns all that time too. Was a competitive field target shooter with a couple of state championships. Been a traditional archer for 30+ years. Spent a bit of time throwing knives (taught by a champion thrower). Messed with slingshots as a kid and young adult but obviously into them big time now!

Married to an amazing woman and have an awesome 7 year old son!

Worked in and out of factories, left due to constant lay offs, factories moving out of the country and everyone pis#@# and moaning about not making the same as everyone else. Ended up in the automotive parts business, which was owned by a Man and his wife. I stayed there because they had everything invested in the business, so I knew they would do whatever it took to stay open. Unlike some CEO with their tie shutting the oxygen off to their brain. I worked where I was just a number, @#& %#@& I retired when I was 60 due to the lack of respect from John Q Stupid I was extremely humbled that people I hardly knew still stop me and talk. That’s why I love this Forum, best members ever

Oh, I'm still young and single, but I'm currently giving a university the old college try while I work a part time job in retail. My other job is at a car auction, to which I will be returning once the semester ends. My strategy at work is to work hard, be cheerful, and do what I see needs done. It seems to have worked out so far. Been addicted to the shooting sports since I was 10 or so, and I show no signs of recovering.

I’ve been around the houses with jobs, I started as a car mechanic, then I had to do some factory work. I then went on to repair CNC machines, didn’t work so I went back to college and done a business administration and worked offices for a while (really not me) I the went on to be a glazier fitting anything glass (they went bust) I then spent 8 years working along side the British military which I left in November. After 2 months of boredom I found slingshots for the very first time and loved them ever since! Along the way I had 2 children, son 5, daughter 7 and I got married to my wife sept 2018. That’s pretty much me!
