As you know i shoot 20/40 looped tubes 95% of the time. I'm really accurate with them get any where between 1500 and 1800 shots per set. And I hate cutting flats and tapers . Been shooting looped tubes almost exclusively for five years.

I shoot Black Mamba flat bands with my Pouch. I shoot these because of the smoothness and I have only got less than 2000 shoots one time. No I never re-tie!

I tried nearly everything available back early on in my sling shooting days. Gave tubes and stuff a go and ended up giving it all away. Really liked TBG so bought a roll of it in 2014 and am still using it up slowly. Still like TBG though lots of members say theres better stuff out there. I have lots of it left yet so likely will be shooting it till my times up lol. No complaints it shoots everything i need it to.

If there was a slingshot university, I'd major in single tubes and minor in flats ... definitely a mini minor.

I hate cutting flats also, but those precut tapers from Simple satisfy the curriculum requirements ... affordable too.

I have almost zero experience with marbles but I'm guessing single 2040 would be a sensible place to start. Lately I'm enjoying single 1842 for 5/16, 3/8 and clay - likely good for marbles too.

The smaller sizes have been my specialty and Dankung just announced a 'new edition' of 1632 - a batch is due here any day. Curious to see if it's like 1636 which is also fun and good with clay for light plinking.

DK provided the option of buying the 'new edition' 1632 from Simple who apparently bought a bulk quantity, so there's a chance your medium amber is DK 2040, and not something from Hygenic Corp which was their source for a while. :iono:

All of my serious shooting is done with looped tubes ..2040, 1842, 1745, 3050 and the Kent 3/32id x 3/64wall x 3/16od. All are very good for me as I'm shooting mostly 3/8" to about 1/2" steel and marbles, some times a little more. If I shoot 5/15 steel I will use a single strand of what ever and it is fine. I do use Green Dub Dub for my heavier (115gr-180-gr) lead ammo if I need it, but in general these looped tubes are what I shoot, although Green Dub Dub shoots 5/8" Marbles and 7/16" Steel like a bullet !!

I live in the Antelope Valley area in Ca. and being it is a high desert area, my shots are all in the 30-45 yard range, so I need some flat shooting for the game I go after .....Mostly Starlings and a few HOSPS.

I have never shot tubes. I have been shooting 1 1/4 inch straight cuts in both TBG and .76 green GZK. I go with 1 and 1/4 because that is how wide my ruler is. It makes things simple. I shoot marbles .45 lead and .50 stainless out of them. They are a bit overpowered for marbles and I get some hand slap but it is worth is when that thwack lands on meat and I know that animal is going to drop! Im heading out tomorrow looking for some mallards that have been loitering on a pond near my house... Fingers crossed this heavy small ammo lands where I point it!

I shoot mostly semi-butterfly with 3/8" steel and make my own bands from bulk .030" amber latex sheets, usually cut 6/8" to 1/2" taper, with an active length of 9" for an over all draw of 44-46". Been shooting that way for quite a while now and really enjoy the accuracy I get . . . along with plenty-enough power to put holes through soup cans.

Lately I have been shooting the old Precise Gen2 .55mm yellow flatband on the Mini-Taurus and Lion Mouth frames. I have about 5 metres of this band and I find it smooth drawing, fast, and versatile. I also have some Sumeike .45mm pink flatband that is smooth and fast but has a much shorter band life.

When I shoot my Chinese loop frames I usually prefer Premium DK-2040 or GZK-1636 for 5/16" or 3/8" steel ammo.... and DK-1632 for 1/4" steel.

When choosing a band I prefer a smooth draw with high efficiency. I don't like drawing over 9 pounds and prefer 6-8. During the summer months I like to reach out to 50 yards so I need some speed.

I make flats from latex-based exercise bands that I purchase at Wally World because

it is cheap and you get a lot of material for the money

no worries if I screw up my cuts - I just grab another length and try again

3 band weights - light, medium, and heavy - as a target shooter, 3/4" heavy in a single band or 1.5" medium folded in half shoots 3/8" steel shot with surprising zip

Wally World is also my one-stop slingshot supply destination - #107, #64, and #32 rubber bands in the office supply aisle, also glue to mount paper targets on heavy cardboard, and double sided tape to help align bands when tying onto the slingshot, right next to the fabric aisle for fake leather, right next to the hardware aisle for duct-take to reinforce the fake leather ("urban leather") and paracord and twine for lanyards, Daisy steel shot and marbles in the outdoor aisle, along with Daisy and Barnet slingshots for modifying, and paintballs, which is right next to the exercise aisle for the exercise bands and also grip tape. Balloons in the party aisle make great targets. If I am feeling truly ambitious, I purchase some baby powder and a plastic funnel, pour the powder into the balloons before blowing up and - reactive targets. Also use the baby powder to lubricate rubber bands when I make bands out of them.

I have 3 main stays...one recently changed thanks to Bone's Bone Grip Band Template. I enjoy cutting bandd now.

1.1632 single tubes for 6mm and 4.5mm steels and 8mm clays.

2. 5/16" straight cut .7mm Usopp vanilla bean for 6mm. This one is has enough heat on the pitch I have to pay attention or a fast ball become a sidewinder.

3. 5/8"-3/8" .55mm Usopp tapers for 8mm steel and 1/2" marbles.

I am going to experiment with .7mm now that I have a US supplier.

Lester Light on Fb. Good prices, excellent communication, and he uses US Priority mail. Fast and secure for me...bit pricey, but worth it.

Knight Microfiber Warrior pouches for 6mm & 8mm & marbles...Chinese microfiber pouches for 4.5mm bbs.

Berk sent me a sample of his roo Knight pouches and they are excellent, but not for me.

I will be using them on flips I mail out.

Threads like this make me feel like I know ere'body a little better. Plinkers, hunters, bashers, and long range snipers...all slingers.

Some of us like a variety and some have very specific preferences...

I think this sport eould be an excellent college course...could be P.E. or a Sociology course. haha...
If I taught it I would require interviews of flipsters from other cultures and a detailed section on humane & clean hunting practices.Maybe an iguana recipe.

I honestly envy the knowledge and work you have all put into the science of this sporting lifestyle.

I ordered myself a Christmas present from Green Mountain Blue Water (flatband template) so that I can cut a proper flatband. My first 7-in-a-row came with stock flats on a stock PP Scorpion which poured a gallon of gasoline of my slingfire!

I once posted that 'tubes were dumb' and 'old fashioned' and promptly got schooled my the famous M.J. who then took me under his slingwing and actually gifted me and SPS!!?

I am still using a SS 2040 set that looks like it will go on forever. Covert5 made me a flat/tube cocktail set that is not only fine looking, but also looks like it will go on forever. I've used office bands too which a remarkably useable for clay/airsoft/corn nuts and the like.

Suffice to say I now feel like a rubber dunce and need to step up my game. Trying not to forget that there is no shame in using somebody else's rubber. Oh..ah....wait...geez..never mind.
