I agree ! As someone who grew up shooting a long bow and then re-curves, I gave up archery when compound bows with laser sights and mechanical releases became popular. KISMIF ( Keep it simple, make it fun). Just saying.

My personal opinion is to keep my shooting as basic as I can. Now with that being said, Im all for mechanical releases especially for people who have hand issues. If and when slingshots become more main stream, I’m sure equipment will progress with shooting aids. Very interesting post Thank you

I have a lot of hand problems and actually considered it but being a traditional archer most of my life u just couldn’t do it. I just had to find a way to shoot that didn’t hurt. They should be pretty accurate though.

I think that Tag above was right - I did not need to think about mechanical release before but now when my knuckles cry when I firmly hold the ammo, well, I do not know..

Lucky for me, My right hand and left shoulder are the least gimpy. If for some reason I had to switch hands, I might consider it, but to tell the truth, I think I'd find another interest.

Relative simplicity is what I really like about slingshots: I say relative, because the numerous variables that it takes to make a good slingshot and to acquire sound shooting skills actually could in fact be viewed as fairly complex.

In my opinion, shooting without some form a release mechanism implies more direct involvement in the pouch release process, which is both challenging but also fun. If anything, I would prefer to opt for a lighter band set if for any reason my release hand decides it cannot handle the task at some stage. If that becomes difficult, then I would consider a slingshot rifle.

I found recurve bows more fun to shoot than powerful compound bows that imperatively need the release trigger system. which I find rather fussy to use.

As other have said, keep it simple. That's what this sport is all about in so many ways.

I got devices to "aid" my hearing. I got eyeglasses which "aid" my sight. And i got false teeth that "aid" my eating.

No dang way im going to use a "aid" for shooting my slingshots.

A guys gotta draw the line somewhere!!!!!!!!

As I said I'm just curious how effective they could be, as a hunter I'll take anything that increases my odds and makes me more proficient. The critter doesn't suffer for my ego wanting to be old school about my methods, if sights aid my shooting in the field - my gear wears sights.

Now if we're talking beating cans, I'd be hard pressed to break out a mechanical release for my plinking sessions as I actually love how elementary my plunking setups are.

I do have one question: could a mechanical release aid the PFS shooter in some unforeseen way?

After finding out they were actually a thing for slingshots all I could think about was whether or not launching a 3/4" ball was possible. Because if so these braced frames might get the dust knocked off them. Unnecessary power? Oh yeah. But think about how high that milk jug full of water would jump!

I'm here to tell you a little about hand held releases. I'm 76 and a retired competition archery shooter with approximately 40 plus years behind me. The release can be a double edged knife. At first it might be like a gift from heaven. Then the devil comes a knocking and you'll have hell to pay. I've heard guys here talk about the YIPS. Most will know what they are.If you don't great,and I hope you never do.If this happens when shooting a release, it can be pure hell. I've known people to give up archery cause they couldn't beat it. Slingshot shooting could be mastered but and there is always gonna be that but. When you start to complicate any sport, slingshot included, it can cause a lot of unforseen goings on. Most of this will be a loss of what used to be fun. Nough said , just my opinion. Oh by the way ,I don't believe that you can BUY good shooting.

Ok, here is what went down:

Coz my index finger is ****** from shooting and i now sure i have a permanent nerve damage ive been looking into release aids. I dont like the idea of big mecanical things, just need something to help me deload the pressure on my indexfinger. At the end i ended up buying a release aid for those fishing spears that you can use with a slingshot. The thought here was that i could slot the pouch between the prongs and shoot it like that. It works to some extent, but its dangerous. I stoped using it when i got a RTS from that nearly took out the window behind me. No control. So i started to think.... I moded it and made some thing that would work better. ive gone thru 7 iterations and now ive come up with a solution that fix my problem without taking away to much dexterity from my fingers. Worst thing is to load the sling when you got aids, it takes so much more time, and its fiddly.

So what ive come up with so far i Call the Slingring, and its actually a ring. It solves all my problems and is easy to use. You can tweek with it and use it every way you normaly will shoot. Now i dont have any pain in my indexfinger. I think its so simple and genious and it solved my problem without to much loss of dexterity. Its 3d printed, and it has an off-center cone figuration for better fitting on the indexfinger. Gimmi a shout if you want to try it. ill send you the file so you can print it out in the size you need.

Here is a pic of the itterations: I rly liked the sec last one but all of them got to fiddly to use when trying to load the slingshot. i got one more itteration afther the ring. Gonna post it if it works.
