Wrap & Tuck

2631 Views 30 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Rodrossuk
I almost added to the Clip or Not to clip post, but decided not to.

I remember well the first time I watched PalmettoFlyer do a wrap and tuck while talking to me. All free hand. I clamped forks to a table to get it done.

I was reading the Clip or Not to clip, and I realized I was doing a wrap & tuck freehand. I cut some black latex to use.

Thanks to the many people who have answered my questions.

Sling On.

Stuff should be here in a couple of days. I will let you know how I get on ,,,,,, There will not be any scratching going on that's for certain.

I am sure that in banding a tupp lamb's testicles the procedure would not put four big scrawps on his scrotum. :aahhhh: I imagine it'll be a band on roll off. I will put heatshring on the prongs and once the band is on it will jst need rolling up and down to change or adjust bands.

Funnily enough I have to put a set of bands on a multiplex frame I have been titivating ........ THese could be my last two wrap and tucks on forks and I am getting very good results at the pouch end using " The No Slip Hitch " on the running line from an old WF4 floating flyl ine ....... Very neat and secure AND SOFT !

The Chinese have it with their WHITE 'Elastration Bands' in that they have a smaller initial internal diameter and will sit tight on a wider variety of wrapping grooves.

The Orange ones I received from UK Ebay are fine on larger attachment posts with grooves as on say a PPMG or + . i am going to wait for the 100 White Chinese 'Elastration' bands from Shen zen and will report back on them when they get here should be at least a couple of weeks.

I am not recommending any of these band as a replacement for 'Wrap & [email protected] methods of band attachment which have a proved track history of safety and reliability.

Nitrile O rings are another alternative that I am going to look into ....... Has anyone else tried the Black everyday O rings ?
BTW If you are tempted to experiment for yourself you DO NOT need the tool .... The special 4 pronged plier handled band stretching tool. For our purposes the band Roll on and Roll off both onto the post and for initial installation over the band.

I found those little castration bands to work on a couple of slingshot frames really well and the rest not at all. They're definitely fiddly whether you have a tool or not! They don't seem to make it any easier to change bands, just an alternative to holding the bands on the frame of a select few slingshots. I wish they worked better than they actually do!
Hi I used snipersling.com. I also use the black tape for finishing the wrap, the tape is sticky on one side, and cloth on top, it is sold as an alternative to tying on bands.
Does the black tape stuff leave any residue on the frame? How easy is it to deal with putting on and off?
Hi, not at all very sticky, but it has some static when you take off the protective layer, which makes it attractive to the band's you are putting on. Takes a while to get used to, but still easier than thing bands!

BTW CBM I was really blown away by Merlin Sheldrake's " Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds, and Shape Our Futures " at the back end of last year. Did a lot of reading around and video watching about modern micology. That Paul "Wassisface" Godfather of Funginology ....... Fascinating !!!!!! Do you do the exotics ?

I just used regular castration bands from the farm store. Are the Chinese ones smaller than them?

That's a really good book! Paul Stamets is awesome! Love me some exotics!
It's common or garden Slime Mould season in the footwell of my car here ...... That snow must have sneaked in when it thawed ! I was totally inspired by Merlin Sheldrake's " Entangled Life " book ...... Everyone got it for Christmas from me.

I will be taking a lot more notice of the local fungi this year. I know where to find nice big field mushrooms from the end of August and this valley is legendary 'Liberty Cap' country. THey have made a symbiotic alliance with the Japanese Knotweed and the field are full of them from the end September accompanied by the youths staring at the ground !!! :imslow:
