I prefer a small frame as well...Between 5 to 5-1/2"....And I prefer forks to be 4" wide....Especially for hunting....I find a small frame feels like part of my hand...Like an extension of body.
I do use larger frames, but when I make a natural, boardcut, or HDPE frame they always end up being a 5-5-1/2" frame...

Big, wide, narrow, small....I like them all.
As for preferred, if I could have all my frames in G10, I would gladly do it.
I started making big frames, then midsize, now I favor smaller ones. My sweet spot is probably smaller medium, if that makes sense.
G10 looks great but the dust from that is really nasty stuff I would not want to be working on that stuff a lot that is for sure even with the proper safety precautions

5.5 inches is giant in my world.

I started a little thread yesterday under "Folding Altoids Slingshot..." where you can see a picture of a very simple folding slingshot that, when unfolded, is 3 x 3.25 inches. It is my everyday slingshot these days and is in my pocket all of the time. It is strung up to be a light hunter right now (birds and rodents) but it can be strung up with full on hunting bands as well.

I haven't used a slingshot as large as the ones you consider to be small for many years.

Are you taking 5" overall height of the slingshot or work gap or outside fork width?
I never clearly understood dimensions for frames when only 1 number is given.
Overall length
I guess it's possible for someone to make a slingshot wider fork gap then it's total length but generally speaking the length will be the longest dimension. From end of the handle to the top of the fork tip .

That's the same way I feel about women...

Question:

Why the long handle? Most of the slingshots we use have "wings" on them so that we can snug up towards the fork for in order to shorten the lever-arm. Yet, so many continue to make their slingshots with a full handle. Is a long handle necessary? Is it just for esthetics? How do you feel about the handle making pocket-carry more difficult?

Long handle lets me feel the lever Doc, crucial for my intuitive style. I know much of it has to do with hand size but for me it's like the difference between shooting a pocket 380 and a full size 45...

My wife thinks the sight of me rambling about the Notch with the Scout's bands dangling playfully from my rear pocket is a potent aphrodisiac. She says it gives her something to look at. I've never had much of a butt...

Maybe she has a Bart Simpson or Dennis the Menace fetish? :)

It's hard to compete with "potent aphrodisiac". Makes me think I should go back to a long handle.

I to shoot instinctively and I get the 45/380 thing but on a pistol you are thinking about the length of the sighting plane and the ability to hold onto the gun as it recoils. On a slingshot, if you are holding it right up around the base of the fork there is a chunk of handle that is sticks down below my hand. It's not a problem - except if the handle sticks up out of my pocket. (Remember, I have a slingshot in my pocket all of the time so being discreet is important to me).

Between 75 - 90 mm fork width and 110 - 120 mm length, TTF or OTT
I like a lot of materials: marine plywood, birch multiplex, tree forks (olive, ash, oak etc), g10, HDPE, aluminium, polycarbonate, carbon fiber.
Like all...I'm addict!!! :)
